margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 235px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_uY0-Khn2e3c/S4Lt7zsZnJI/AAAAAAAAAAM/CMd36VXM92E/s320/20100222_123427_charlie_russell_300.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441172911561481362" /></a><br />Country radio legend Charlie Russell dies at 73<br />By Doug Pullen / El Paso Times<br />Posted: 02/22/2010 12:04:10 PM MST<br /><br /><br /><br />EL PASO - Local radio legend Charlie Russell died of complications from prostate cancer at 8 a.m. today.<br /><br />Russell, 73, was a veteran broadcaster and singer, best known for his 23-year stint as the popular morning show host on country radio station KHEY-AM (600).<br /><br />"I know heaven has a hell of a new angel out there," Andrew Russell of Grapevine, Texas, said of his father, known for his good works in the community.<br /><br />Russell was an account executive for Clear Channel Radio, which owns KHEY-AM and FM (96.3), at the time of his death.<br /><br />The former KELP rock 'n' roll disc jockey is survived by his wife of 54 years, Drewlene, whom he met at Hot Springs High School in Truth or Consequences, N.M.<br /><br />He also is survived by son Charlie Jr. "Chuck" Russell of Ellendale, N.D., and daughter Debbie Russell of Denver.<br /><br />Russell had 10 grandchildren.<br /><br />Funeral services are pending.<br /><br />A tribute concert is being planned for 6 p.m. March 7 at the Dallas Nights Country Saloon, 1840 Lee Trevino.<br /><br />Many of the musicians with whom he performed over the years are expected to participate, according to Jerry M.
